proud momma moment
no, not from DD but from my other 'baby' Lexi, our 7 yr old Boxer. When I brought the wee lass home 7 yrs ago, she was for my DH who lost his Boxer pup Charlie when they were both wee lasses themselves. This was all pre-kid you see, so she was in fact our baby. Stayed in the house, slept with us, the whole nine yards. That is until she passed her mother's petite 45 lb weight to grow to 75 lbs at 9mos. So outside she went to a chain link kennel. Anyways, fast forward to post-kid and I haven't really had time to get out and play and just basically do doggie stuff with her. Being the Ellie Mae-Animal Lover that I am, I've always had a bit of guilt in that dept.
So tonight, DD & DH were out riding the 4 wheeler around the field so it was just me & pooch. A red pickup pulled into the driveway. It was two of those idiots that sell steaks, chicken, etc out of a freezer in the back of their truck, like I trust anyone nowadays to eat something they've sold me out of their truck. So the next thing I know, before he gets the truck in Park, Lexi is between me & the truck with every hair on her back standing up, barking at him. He looks at me several times during his little sales speech like he's waiting on me to call her back. Afraid not, creep! First you pull up in my driveway in an unmarked truck and start to get out of your vehicle without introducing yourself. Sorry, no can do. So I tell him we're not interested and he leaves. Cut to Big Brown Eyed Doggie getting mucho praise and lots of love. She was so proud of herself. lol! For the next 30 minutes, she didn't leave my side and kept looking back toward the driveway to make sure no one was coming.
I know, may not seem like a big deal to most people but in this day and age when morons will walk up to you and cut your throat or kidnap you in broad daylight, I'm very relieved to know that they will have to get through the big bad doggie to get to us. Also gives me a little peace of mind that I don't have to worry about DD being outside if I have to run in the house for a second. So lets hear it for all the other loyal, protective family pets and give them extra love & treats! :)
