A Day in the Life
Robby turned 4 on Tuesday. Wow. I never realized this would be a hard age. I thought maybe when he went off to kindergarten I’d freak. If this is any indication of how birthdays are going to be I am in big trouble! The babe is no longer a babe. In no fashion can he even be called a toddler any more. It’s quite the milestone. I know we are the first of the group to have birthday’s so I must warn you ladies…it’s not easy! You start looking at your child a little differently. Robby looks a little taller to me, a little more grown up. He still has fits when you make him do things and he still refuses to eat anything that isn’t bread but he just seems older.
I know it is my impression that has changed but I am proud that he is growing into such a cute young man. I know I am biased but I am also the first to admit he was not one of the beautiful babies. He looked like an old man with peach fuzz on his head for months. Lol Now he is lean and mean and those hazel eyes are to die for! Ok, enough bragging. I think we 6 women have the cutest kids of all time!
On to what I’ve been doing. Absolutely nothing. I have read a few books the last couple of weeks. 2 Jennifer Weiner books which are always good. She is an easy read and makes you laugh and cry. Yes, it is chick lit and not “serious literature”, but fun none the same.
When I ran out of Weiner books I picked up a few I had no clue about. The first was “My Wife and My Dead Wife” by Michael Kun. An interesting read that I think I enjoyed. I must have since I stayed up till 3 in the morning to finish it. I am not used to reading male authors so it took me some time to get into it. I’d have to give it 7 of 10 though.
Next I read “The Thing about Jane Spring” by Sharon Krum. Not a favorite. I didn’t have any empathy for the main character. She went from one extreme from the other and I was hoping that she would eventually find herself. She didn’t. I guess I didn’t really like the concept of a woman changing her entire being to find a man. The jacket sounded like it was filled with humor but I did not see it. I can see where this would make a good movie though. Easy to film. I’d have to give this a 5 of 10. Maybe even a 4.
Right now I am reading “Diary of a Mad Housewife” by Sue Kaufman. It was published first in 1967 but I think it is still relevant today. I have no clue on a lot of the references since I was only 2 then but the underlying theme still holds true. I’ll hold off rating it till I am finished. I’d like to see if the lady gets out of her funk first. Lol
So that is what I have been up to. Reading is not easy because I usually only get to do it for brief moments stolen in the bathroom. But it is something I do for me. May be the only thing I do for me honestly. I also think having our kids see us reading encourages them to read later on. Oh my, I just realized reading for them is just around the corner if they aren’t there already. ACK!
